FIELD OF PLAY MEGAPHONES & LISTENING HORNS

Historically megaphones have been used to marshall football crowds, to make the voice of the stewards louder. As part of the Field of Play event, artist Frances Crow from Liminal will be encouraging people to make and use listening horns and megaphones. This will help them to extend their listening skills and also allow them to amplify the sounds around them. In this way they will gain an insight into the volume of noise produced by the crowd at the Milton Road Ground on what is now a much quieter Mitchams Park site.
On the day Frances will also be encouraging people to remember the sound of the crowd at the Milton Road Football Ground by contributing to a collective map of their memories of the sound, using map pins and printed labels.
MEGAPHONES make QUIET SOUNDS LOUDER By placing the MEGAPHONE to the EAR it becomes a LISTENING HORN
LISTENING HORNS make DISTANT SOUNDS closer
Frances will also on the day bring cards to make the listening horns so children can create their own horns and take them away, There will also be a selection of larger horns that the ‘players’ in the FIELD OF PLAY event can play with. There will also be a display of a sample of the END OF THE GAME box whistle and cards for people to see what the project is about.
